week 2 rambles...

first thing's first. as of yesterday morning, I was down 7.2 lbs in the 15 days since Apr 28.

However, it was like my usual PMS food cravings showed up about 5 days late... I have eaten pretty close to only crap for the last 24 hours. half a bag of Doritos last night (J left 'em in plain sight...), chinese food at lunch, stupid mcd's for dinner. And i've noticed my foot is swelling up again, most likely because I haven't been as diligent with the caffeine cut-backs as I had been hoping to be. BAH. plus, this weekend we're going to J's parents place, so it will be hard to be 'good' where I'm not making my own meals. Food choices, yes, but still... ah well, we'll see how it goes.

I met with my ND/acupuncturist/dietitian on Monday... she reviewed my food diary, and determined I was still eating too many high glycemic foods. And ya, I know I do, but she also highlighted things like the 1 Dorito I ate one day. First off, it was ONE effing Dorito. Not one bag, one handful, but ONE. CHIP. and I journalled it! bah. She also mentioned that i drink waaaaay too much juice. Umm, I was really sick last week. the only time I drink juice? is when I'm sick. so I took that with a grain of salt... just ticked me off. ah well. I find that journalling totally helped... if i have to write it down, i'm not as likely to eat the crap.

Ah well. I'll see how I do for the rest of the month, and may just start ww online after that.

First of all...congrats on the total loss!!!

Now...here's the tough love part: While J may have "left them in plain sight" it was you who made the conscious decision to pick them up and eat them instead of put them away out of sight :P Only YOU are responsible for the things you put in your mouth, nobody else. My question is why the Doritos even went in the grocery cart to begin with? If J is as on board with this as you are then he should be doing everything in his power to assist you (yes, not leaving them out...I agree) but in not having them in the house PERIOD when he knows this could enable you. He can have his snacks, just at work, etc.

Journalling does help as it makes you accountable and good on you for putting down the ONE chip. Most would not have but you did which is commendable. While she shouldn't have made a big deal about it, it was there, it was something that shouldn't have been and she was right to call you on it, however small it was. She's just doing her job. Would it have been better had she overlooked it and not mentioned it? Likely not as it may lead you to believe she was okay with it. This way she's communicating that she's not okay with it and will make you think next time that however small the indiscretion appears to be, it is still a no-no!

As for the chinese food and McD's...tsk tsk. Hey, don't hate me, I'm just trying to show my support and part of that is rooting for your successes and calling you on your bad decisions.

When you have one slip it is very easy to just roll with it and take the approach "well I just effed up my record for today, might as well keep going and start fresh tomorrow". Yes, it is easy to do that but you don't have to! So you made one bad choice. You also have the choice to let it stop there and not snowball! Nobody made you have McD's for supper as a chaser to the chinese. You made that decision. One step forward, two steps back. You are stronger than that! You have more willpower than that. You let Snacky win! :(
Today you're likely suffering from some post chinese/McD's salt overload so be sure to up the water intake to flush it all out of your system.
Move forward, keep journalling and keep focused. Don't let Snacky win next time!
I know you've been feeling crappy this week but have you exercised at all? What are your plans for incorporating that into the diet?
Also, if you want a copy of my Simply For Life menu plan you're more than welcome. I find that having a set menu (with some choices of course but still set out) is easier to follow than allowing myself choices based on points. If you have the option to cheat with points to have a piece of cake (just an example) then I find you're more likely to slip up elsewhere. I allow myself one cheat meal or one cheat day per week. There's no holds barred for that day, I get it out of my system, the metabolism gets a kick start again and I move on with the next week.
Hugs. You're doing an awesome job!!!
